Albert Sidney "Sidney" Walker Jr., 94, a longtime resident of Rio Communities, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026.
Sidney was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was defined by his love for his family, his faith, and his many years of hard work and service. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Korean War. Following his military service, Sidney dedicated 46 years to the BNSF Railway as a locomotive engineer.
He had a natural mechanical ability and enjoyed working as a mechanic. He also had a deep appreciation for railroads, reflecting the many years he spent working in the railroad industry. Music was another passion of his, particularly country music, and he enjoyed playing the guitar. He was also especially fond of his beloved poodle, Sunny.
Sidney was a Christian and found comfort and strength in his faith. Above all, he treasured his family. Among the memories held dear by those who loved him was the story of the first time Sidney and his wife, Marla, saw one another—a meeting remembered as love at first sight.
He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Walker; his mother, Ophelia Walker; his brother, Nathaniel Walker; and his sisters, Oleta Warren, Faye Nell Hegedorn, Kathy Dykers, and Anita Pearl Walker.
Sidney is survived by his beloved wife, Marla Walker; his daughters, Diana Coker (Rick) and Lori Porch (Stan); his grandson, Brandon Boggs (Melissa); his granddaughter, Jessica Torres (Abran); and his great-grandsons, Landon Bogg, Traydon Boggs, Hunter Torres, and Ronan Boggs.
Sidney will be remembered for his gentle and loving nature, his dedication to those he loved, his years of service to his country and his community, and the lasting impression he made on his family. His memory will remain a cherished blessing to all who knew and loved him.
A private committal service for Albert will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
