Anthony Balenquah Obituary

Anthony "Tommy" Balenquah passed away in June 2026, leaving behind a family who will forever miss his laughter, his music, and the unmistakable spirit that made him uniquely Tommy.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Tommy was raised in the Pueblo of Isleta, where family, community, and tradition helped shape the man he became. He was proud of his Isleta and Hopi heritage and carried that pride with him throughout his life. No matter where he lived, his roots were always a part of who he was.

Tommy lived life on his own terms. He had a quick wit, an infectious sense of humor, and a personality that could brighten a room. If you knew Tommy, you probably have a story that still makes you smile. He loved making people laugh, and his laughter was one of the many gifts he shared with those around him.

Music was the heartbeat of Tommy's life. A talented guitarist, he spent countless hours playing, practicing, and chasing his dream of performing with a band. His guitars were never far from his side, and some of his happiest moments were spent with music in his hands. He was a devoted fan of Jane's Addiction, and the music he loved became part of the soundtrack of his life.

Tommy was equally passionate about his Raiders. Through every season, every victory, and every disappointment, he remained loyal. When the Raiders moved to Las Vegas, he couldn't have been happier. It felt like one more reason that city had become home.

Anyone who knew Tommy also knew about his hair. He took pride in it, wore it well, and wasn't shy about making sure it looked just right. It became part of his signature style and something those who loved him will always remember with a smile.

Family was at the center of Tommy's heart. He is survived by his mother, Mary Balenquah; his father, Clifford Balenquah; his sister, Theresa Ortiz; and his brother, David Balenquah.

Above all else, Tommy's greatest joy was his family. He loved deeply, was fiercely proud of his niece, Melanie, and his nephews, Joe and Jeremiah, and never missed an opportunity to tell others about them. His family was always in his heart, no matter the distance.

He is also lovingly remembered by his Uncle Mike Jiron and Aunt Jeanie; his cousins, Mike Jiron, Jr. and his family, and Marie Bateman and her family; along with many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his humor, kindness, and unforgettable personality.

The loss of Tommy leaves a space that can never truly be filled. While our hearts ache with his absence, we are grateful for every laugh he gave us, every song he played, every conversation we shared, and every memory we now hold close. Love does not end when someone leaves this world. It lives on in stories told around the dinner table, in songs that bring tears and smiles at the same time, and in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to love him.

A private graveside service has been held. A memorial service celebrating Tommy's life will be announced at a later date. Family and friends will gather to share memories, celebrate the music, laughter, and love he brought into the world, and honor a man who will never be forgotten.

May his journey continue in peace, and may his songs, his laughter, and the love he shared remain with us always. Tommy will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
