Benjamin Castillo, age 79, a resident of Belen, New Mexico, went to be with our Heavenly Father on April 19, 2026 while surrounded by his family.
Ben was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio and Flora (Chavez) Castillo; his brothers Elias, Ralph, and Jose; and his sisters Viola and Viviana.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vangie G. Castillo; his sons Estevan Castillo (Malaika) and Diego Castillo (Candace); his daughter Camille Hamilton (Jess); and his seven cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Melquicles (Lydia), Patrick, and Robert; his sisters Mary Ellen and Angela (Juan).
Ben proudly served his country in the Vietnam War with the United States Air Force. Following his service, he built a life rooted in hard work, determination, and entrepreneurship. He was a successful businessman who enjoyed making deals—whether in real estate, selling hay from his farm, or trading tractors.
He had a passion for collecting cars and took great pride in showcasing his collection. A talented carpenter, Ben had the remarkable ability to build anything he set his mind to, from furniture to custom homes. He was also a skilled mechanic who found joy in teaching others and sharing his knowledge.
Ben instilled in his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews the value of hard work, perseverance, and integrity. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the VA medical staff, doctors, and nurses, as well as the VA hospice center and Fisher House, for the compassionate care and support they provided to Ben and his family during his final days.
Ben will be dearly missed, but his family and friends find comfort in knowing he is at peace and watching over them from heaven.
