Bob Butler passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 1, 1937, in Portales, New Mexico, Bob grew up and built a life in Belen, New Mexico. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for three years before embarking on a dedicated 42-year career with the railroad.
In 1964, Bob married the love of his life, Shirley. That same milestone year, they welcomed their only son, Jerry. Bob was a devoted family man who loved nothing more than being in the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he cherished the times spent creating lasting memories with his family in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Blessed with many wonderful friends, Bob always enjoyed spending time with them and living life to the fullest.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Billie and JR Butler; his brother, Ron Butler; and his nephew, Dean Butler.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley Butler; his son, Jerry Butler; his brothers, Jim Butler of Costa Rica and Steve Butler of Washington; his granddaughters, Rhiannon Caes (and husband Casey) and Jaelyn Ezell; and his cherished great-granddaughters, Gabby, Leah, Bella, and Scarlett. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
A military committal service for Bob will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 9:45 am, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
