Charles Benavidez, lovingly known as “Uncle Charlie,” passed away peacefully in Long Beach CA on September 11, 2025, just days before his 81st birthday. Born on September 15, 1944, he spent most of his childhood and young adult life in Belen NM. Charlie later made his home in Long Beach, California, where he spent most of his adult life.
A proud veteran, Charlie honorably served his country in the military, serving in the Navy and the Marines carrying with him a strong sense of discipline, loyalty, and service throughout his life. He was known for his kindness, sense of humor, being a free spirit and unwavering love for his family and friends. He was someone that was always there if you needed him.
Charlie is survived by his brother, Raymond Benavidez along with many beloved nieces, nephews,cousins and his cherished godsons, Aaron and Gabriel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicomedes Baca and Antonio Benavidez, and his siblings Ruby Romero, Cecilia Otero, Edwin Benavidez, Glenn Benavidez, Rupert Benavidez, and Marty Benavidez.
Honoring his final wishes, Charlie hoped to move back to Belen NM but unable to make that happen before his passing, it is a wish that was lovingly fulfilled by his niece Elizabeth he was brought home and A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Noblin Funeral Service in Belen, NM, on October 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
Charlie will be remembered for his warm heart, loud raspy laugh, and the countless memories he shared with those who loved him. His spirit will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew him. Our crazy uncle Charlie we love you and will miss you dearly.
