With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Delores Smith on February 11, 2025. She was a
beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of so
many with her kindness, faith, and unwavering love.
Delores was born on August 16, 1943, in Belen, New Mexico. She married the love of her life, Earl
"Snuffy" Smith, in 1960, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished
memories until his passing in 1995.
A dedicated homemaker, Delores also had a heart for helping children. She worked as a substitute
teacher in Gallup, NM, guiding and encouraging students, and later supported young learners and
staff while working in the office at La Mesa Christian School in Belen. She was a devout Christian
whose faith and compassion for others shined brightly.
She was a woman of many talents and passions, including cooking, baking, crocheting, drawing,
and playing the piano. She especially loved line dancing and performed with the Valley Line
Dancers for many years.
Above all, Delores cherished her family. She is survived by her son, Galen Smith, and his wife,
Paula; her son, Brien Smith, and his family; and her daughter, April Sauer, and her husband, Jody.
She was a loving grandmother to Tyler Smith and his wife, Casi; Amanda Smith; Kyle Smith; Makenna Sauer; and her late grandson, Tristan Sauer. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren—Weston Smith, Ryker Smith, and her late great-granddaughter, Kali Smith, the children of Tyler and Casi Smith.
Delores is also survived by her brothers, Felix Jaramillo (wife Lorraine), Jerry Jaramillo (wife Cecilia),
Rick Jaramillo (wife Glenna), and Floyd Jaramillo, as well as her sister, Rosaline Gray (husband Wesley).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl "Snuffy" Smith; her daughter, Melinda Smith; her
parents, Florencio Jaramillo and Erlinda Jaramillo Marquez; her brother, Robert Jaramillo; her sister,
Lily Mudge; her grandson, Tristan Sauer; and her great-granddaughter, Kali Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in
Delores' memory.
Her love, faith, and warmth will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Services for Delores will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel. A visitation will take place at 10:30 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Delores will then be laid to rest at the Terrace Grove Cemetery at 12:00 pm with a reception to follow at Eagle Park Recreation Center, 305 Eagle Lane, Belen, NM 87002.
