Don Alan Banks

Don A. Banks died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Los Lunas, NM, on Sunday, September 10, 2023.

Don was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on September 1, 1946. In his early years, Don and his family moved frequently, spending some of his childhood in England. His father was a USAF-Tuskegee Airman, and Don took pride in his father's service to his country. As a result, he followed his father's military service in the Army during the Vietnam War.

He believed education was the key to success, receiving a bachelor's and master's degree from C.W. Post (Long Island University). In his professional life, Don owned numerous businesses and was a regional sales manager for Nissan Corporation.

However, what he enjoyed the most was his career as a counselor in the Los Lunas and Belen school districts, working with students and moving them in the right direction to achieve their goals. In addition to loving his family and friends, He had a passion for cars, football, and music, even singing in a local band in New York. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed sharing hours of conversations with family, friends, and acquaintances.

He will be genuinely missed by his family and those who knew him.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Gail, and his three children, Chris (Stephanie) Banks, Timothy Banks, and William (Linda) Banks. Don is also survived by his grandson, Miles Banks; his two sisters, Alana (Ray) Smith and Denise (Joseph) Jonhson; and numerous nieces and a nephew.

A memorial service will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
