Donald Elliott Hefner, 74, of Los Lunas, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Monday,
November 17, 2025.
Don was a proud graduate of Texas Tech University, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Business
Administration in 1975. He was a dedicated member and Elder of the Cumberland Presbyterian
Church in Lubbock, Texas, where he sang in the choir and met his beloved wife of 36 years,
Carolyn, who served as Choir Director.
Throughout his life, Don pursued a fulfilling career as a Certified Public Accountant, operating
his own firm for over 40 years. He was a man of many interests, passionate about fly fishing,
stamp collecting, electronics, and photography. He also found joy in oil painting, cooking,
astronomy, archaeology, and ranching.
Don was a talented musician who enjoyed both playing and listening to jazz. He was proud to
be a member of the Lubbock West Winds Band.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Virginia Hefner. He is survived by his
loving wife Carolyn and their two bulldogs; his brother Joe Hefner (Judith); nephews Thomas
Hefner (Rachel), Hunter, and Holland; Joseph Hefner; Corra, Brayden, and Hayden.
Don's extended family includes Brad Walker (Patricia); Emily (Walker) Bender (Jeff);
grandchildren Evan (Walker) Peacock (Tom), Sierra (Walker) Waddell (Adam), Bailey Bender,
Will Bender, and five great-grandchildren.
Don will be fondly remembered for his kindness, warmth, and unwavering dedication to family
and friends. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched.
