Dora Rizor Obituary
Dora Aurora (Armijo) Rizor, 84, of Peralta, New Mexico, passed away peacefully in her home on September 11, 2025. Dora was a beautiful, tough woman whose vibrant spirit, deep love for her family, and passion for music and the outdoors defined her rich life.
A proud native of New Mexico, Dora graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1958 and continued her education at Western New Mexico University in Silver City. She built a distinguished career as a Records Clerk, retiring after years of dedicated service to the Albuquerque Police Department (APD).
Dora cultivated a diverse range of passions. She loved playing the French horn and was skilled at twirling a baton. She was most at home in nature, finding peace and enjoyment stream fishing in the clear waters of the Jemez and the Pecos. Her loving nature was balanced by a tough, resilient spirit, qualities she shared freely with all who knew her. Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was truly beyond measure.
Dora was preceded in death by her adoptive mother, Margarita "Maggie" Armijo; her mother, Mary Stevenson; her father, Alejo Armijo; her grandfather, Daniel Armijo; her brother, Alexander Lee Acevedo; her sister, Andrea Ray Acevedo; her brothers-in-law, Raymond Rizor and Ronnie Rizor; her sisters-in-law, Kaaren Rizor and Keiko Rizor; and her nephew, Daniel Rizor.
She is survived by her former husbands, Steve F. Rizor, Jr., and Ivan Padilla; and her children, Douglas Daniel Rizor and wife Susie, and Lora Lee Rizor.
Dora leaves behind her siblings, Irene Scholl, Terri Saenz-Jones and husband John, and Johnny Acevedo; and sisters-in-law, Kathy Rizor and Vickie Storm. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Sheyenne Wasilowski and husband L. J., and Mickey Padilla and wife Maureen.
Her memory will be cherished by her eight beloved grandchildren: Jon Daniel Rizor, Jana Rae Rizor, Melanie Rizor, Stephanie Ratledge, Allison Wasilowski, Anthony Wasilowski, Michael Padilla, and Seth Padilla. She also leaves behind her seven great-grandchildren: Jon Daniel Rizor Jr., Zachariah Lee Rizor, Vera Ray Rizor, Jesse James Kitt, Rowyn Ratledge, and Everett Ratledge.
Dora is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Lisa and Russ Aslesen, Mike and Ann Rizor, January Rizor, Steve Rizor, Johnny Ray Acevedo, Renee Acevedo, Maria Acevedo, Simon Acevedo, Danielle Saenz Underdown, Desiree Saenz, Michael Saenz, Robert Saenz, Raymond Acevedo, Sunshine Silva, Alex Acevedo, Jason Acevedo, Chenoa Pima, and Chawni Pima.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 3rd, at 10:00 a.m. at Noblin Funeral Service in Belen, New Mexico. A Funeral Mass will be held the following day, Saturday, October 4th, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Truth or Consequences (T or C). Interment will follow the Mass at the cemetery in Los Palomas. The family invites all who attend to share in food, hugs, and blessings at the Catholic Rectory after the burial.
