The family of Edward Charles Pawl II of Socorro, New Mexico is saddened to announce his passing on February 2, 2026. He was 83.
Ed was born on August 4, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, to Edward and Mary Pawlowski, and grew up in Warrenville, Illinois. From an early age, he learned the values that would define his life, hard work, independence, and helping others without hesitation.
He proudly served as a U.S. Marine combat veteran, a chapter of his life that shaped his quiet strength and deep sense of duty. Ed worked in the New Mexico uranium mines, later owned E & L Texaco in Salem, Oregon, and spent years as a semi-truck driver. He eventually retired from the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife, working at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, a place that suited his appreciation for the outdoors and steady work.
Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaVelle Pawl, to whom he was married for over 51 years, and by his son, Edward Charles Pawl III.
He is survived by his children: Rachanda Edmonds, Bryan Gooch, Rhonda Schmidt, and Ivan Pawl, along with 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Ed was known as a generous, hardworking man who was always willing to lend a hand to family, friends, and strangers alike.. He especially enjoyed traveling with LaVelle in their motorhome, seeing the country together, and riding his motorcycle, embracing the freedom of the open road.
Ed's life was defined not by loud moments, but by his loyalty, fortitude, and making people laugh. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
The family will hold a private celebration of life with family and friends at a later date.
