Eloy "E.J." Smith, Age 77, born in Las Vegas, NM, A 20-year resident of Belen, NM, but a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM, and a retired civil engineer, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Carrasco Smith; parents, Joe and Sarah Smith; and siblings, Bobby Smith and Clyde Smith. Eloy is survived by his daughters, Toni Smith from Phoenix, Arizona and Alexandra Gutierrez and husband, Daniel from Titusville, Florida; grandchildren, Kayla Gutierrez from Tampa, Florida and Kasey Hynes and husband, John from Tampa, Florida; siblings, Gilbert Smith and wife, Margaret from Las Vegas, New Mexico, Jerry Smith from Santa Fe, New Mexico, Sally Callender and husband, Howard from Stanton, Texas; Maria Smith and husband, Dale Long from Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Viola Lambert and husband, Jeff from Hobbs, New Mexico; Joseph Smith from Pecos, Texas; and Loretta Lovato from Albuquerque, NM. Eloy will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving father, an accomplished civil engineer, and an outdoor enthusiast who loved to fish. He was a man of faith who held a lifelong dedication to Our Lady of Guadalupe. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and also enjoyed researching UFO and alien sightings and stories. He kept all entertained with his adventures from his youth which included all kinds of shenanigans with his brothers growing up on their ranch in Las Vegas, NM. He was known for his sarcastic sense of humor and made friends wherever he went. He knew no strangers. His greatest joy was enjoying a good cup of coffee—saying this was just the "Smith" way of life.
