At home, he took great pride in raising his chickens and goats. A man of faith, he was a member of the Baptist church and had a deep love for country and Cajun music.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Inez Olivarez, and his brothers, Jessie and Chavelo.

Ernest is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Anita Olivares; his daughter, Melinda Granger and husband Joseph; and his sons, Justin and wife Kim, Hank; and wife Lacy; his sister, Rita Reyes and husband Alfonzo; 4 brothers: John Ruben and wife Louisa, Louis and wife Betty, Paul and wife Bert, and Joe Robert, along with many other beloved family members.
