Jean Trout Obituary
April14, 2026, Jean (Jeanie) Marie Sanders Trout, 77, of Rio Communities, NM passed away peacefully at home with her beloved family at her side.
Jeanie grew up in rural New Mexico helping on the family farm from a young age. Music was an integral part of her life beginning with piano lessons as a young girl. After high school, Jeanie obtained bachelor's and master's degrees in music and education from Eastern New Mexico University, where she met the love of her life, Jerry. She taught 5th grade, but found her true calling teaching elementary music at Lydia Rippey Elementary and McCoy Elementary Schools in Aztec, New Mexico. Many of her students fondly remember their roles in her annual music programs.
Her love of music continued throughout her life and most recently as a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Belen bell choir.
Jeanie's love of children was most closely felt by her daughters and grandsons. Whether playing the piano, singing, hiking, or dancing with them, she was always ready to find and share in moments of joy with her family.
Jeanie was also a tireless caregiver for her husband and mother, never ceasing to make their lives easier and more comfortable with wonderful meals and gentle care.
Jeanie is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, and her mother, Marjorie Sanders.
She is survived by her daughters Stephanie (Jose) Torrez, of Rio Communities, NM and Julia (Roger) Johns of Columbus, GA; two grandsons, Rey and Tomas Torrez; and brother-in-law, Charlie Robinson of Lovington, NM.
Our family will forever treasure our memories of Jeanie. Her endless love and care for her family will be felt always.
In lieu of flowers, Jeanie requested donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Belen.
