Joey Montoya, 51, of Belen, NM, passed away on September 2, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a family who loved him deeply.
Joey was a devoted father who lived for his children. His kids were his greatest source of pride and joy. So much of what he did was driven by his desire to provide for them, protect them, and simply be there for them. His love for his children was at the heart of who he was, and being their dad was one of the roles he cherished most.
Joey was a hard worker who would never hesitate to do what needed to be done. He was always willing to lend a hand, and if someone needed help, Joey was the person who would step in. He had a generous and giving heart and found ways to help the people around him. He cared deeply for his family and friends and was always willing to do what he could for others.
Those who knew Joey will remember his sense of humor, his kind heart, his carefree spirit, and his willingness to help anyone who needed it. They will remember the laughter, the stories, and the countless memories he created with the people he loved. Joey had a way of making an impression on those around him, and his presence brought something special to the lives of many. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Joey is survived by his wife, Tanyia Montoya; his beloved children, Marcelo Montoya, Micaela Janay Montoya, Joey Ray Montoya, and Jayson Anthony Montoya; his granddaughter, Haisley Karisma Montoya; his mother, Jane Tarango; his brothers, Vincent Montoya and Juan Garza; thirty-three nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Sonny Montoya; aunts Guadalupe Tarango, Socorro Franco, Linda Garcia, and Nicky Mondragon; and uncles Raymond Tarango and Manuel Tarango.
Joey leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind a family who carries his love with them, children who will always know how deeply their dad loved them, and countless people whose lives were touched by his kindness, humor, and generous spirit.
His children, family, and friends will forever hold close the memories of the man he was and the love he gave them. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18th at 10:00 am with a viewing at 9:30 am. Services will be at Grace Fellowship Church, 3384 NM 47, Los Lunas, NM 87031. Burial will be at a later date. Reception to follow.
