Johnnie Reynaldo Gabaldon, age 89, a longtime resident of Los Lunas who was raised in Belen, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026 surrounded by his wife and loving family.
Born and raised in Belen, Johnnie began working at a young age alongside his father, loading and unloading cargo at the railroad yards. He later worked as an auto mechanic at Frank Seminara Pontiac-Buick in Belen. Outside the job, he, his brothers, and his nephews restored, painted, and detailed cars together—something he did as a life passion.
In the 1970s, Johnnie starting working construction, specializing in concrete work and heavy equipment operation. For many years, he worked for Kent Nowlin Construction on numerous building projects throughout the Albuquerque metropolitan area and at Kirtland Air Force Base. Known for his can-do spirit and strong work ethic, he approached every task with dedication and skill.
Above all, Johnnie cherished every moment spent with his family. A true cowboy at heart, he enjoyed watching classic Western television shows and sharing fun time with loved ones. He will be fondly remembered for his dedication, kindness, and lasting impact on those around him, as well as his big smile, great sense of humor, and for making the rounds to visit family and friends.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Virginia Gabaldon; stepmother, Josephina Gabaldon; son, Michael Gabaldon; sister, Faustina Edgin; stepson, Robert Chavez; and brother, Ernie Gabaldon.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Delia Gabaldon; children, Evangeline, Rose, Terry, Barbara, and Carol; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two brothers; one stepbrother; and three stepsisters, many nieces and nephews.
Johnnie will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Home in Los Lunas.
