Johnny Ray Mckinley, age 60, was born on May 19, 1965, in Socorro, New Mexico, and passed away on August 22, 2025, in Magdalena, New Mexico, surrounded by his loved ones. He was a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, and husband.
Johnny Ray Mckinley is preceded in death by his father, John Henry Mckinley.
Johnny Ray attended high school in Quemado, New Mexico, while helping his family work on the Augustine Plains at the Double H Ranch. He furthered his education at Clarendon Junior College, where he earned a certificate in Ranch and Feedlot Management.
Johnny Ray and his previous wife, Jamie Lee Blair and had 2 beautiful sons. He then married his wife Connie Jo Mckinley on May 06, 2011, and they became a beautiful family.
After retiring from Western New Mexico Communications, Johnny Ray decided to return to work at the Double H Ranch, the place where he grew up and held dear to his heart.
Johnny Ray had a passion for hunting, guiding, and team roping, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was deeply loved by his family and friends for his kindness, compassion, sense of humor, and hardworking nature.
Johnny's legacy of love, dedication, and laughter will be cherished by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Johnny Ray Mckinley is survived by his mother, Judy Kay Mckinley. Wife: Connie Jo Mckinley. His children: Kashen (Shelbi) Urban, Don (Michaela) Mckinley, Brent (Janelle) Mckinley, Tyrell (Kacee) Davis, Kyle (Karley) Davis, and Nicole (Alec) Bilbo. Grandchildren:
Darley Mckinley, Delaney Mckinley, Dally Mckinley, Rosalia Mckinley, Makhayla Davis, Makenzie Davis, Sorrell Davis, Remi Chavez, Maya Davis, Acen Paez. Siblings: Jigger Dee (Cheryl) Mckinley, Jimmy Don (Brandy) Mckinley, Jeanise Mckinley. Nieces and Nephews:Keld Mckinley, Jarret Mckinley, Karli Mckinley, Peyton (Holt) Shelley, Braxton Mckinley, KC (Dally) Sexton, Jadyn Sexton, Ryleigh Skinner-Mckinley, Great nieces and nephews: Rhett Walker, Boone Walker, Kati Garcia, Johnny Sexton, Kassidy Sexton, Oakley Peralta. Along with many other family members and friends.
A celebration of life for Johnny Ray will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Pie Town Pavilion at 11:00 am. This will be potluck style, so bring your favorite dish, an appetite, and a good story to tell!
