Kenneth D. Bishop, 83, of Bosque Farms, NM passed away on March 29, 2023.
Ken was born in Ophir CO and grew up in Montrose CO. Ken helped his parents on the family
farm until he graduated from Montrose HS. He went on to Colorado State University,
graduating with a degree in Range Conservation. He was the first in his family to attend and
obtain a college degree.
After college Ken married his college sweetheart Nancy and began working for the USDA Forest
Service. A 30 year career that took Nancy away from the city life to the most remote areas of
New Mexico and Arizona with a final stopping point in Taos NM. Ken spent the next 18 years
working on the Carson National Forest until he retired in 1993. Upon retirement Ken and Nancy
moved to Bosque Farms which was known to the family as "The Forest Service retirement spot".
Some of his closest friends from college and career had settled in and around there. When asked
what he was going to do after retirement Ken said he wasn't sure but whatever it was it would be
something fun, like fishing every day! He dabbled in a fencing business and a small landscaping
business, but his true calling was range management. He spent the next 20 years doing
independent land analysis work.
A resident of Bosque Farms NM for almost 30 years. He was a volunteer fireman, served on
village council, and with his lifelong friend of 60+ years, Roy Carson, formed the "early morning
coffee people" meeting at various local coffee shops. If you have ever shared a fence with Ken
then you would have enjoyed a good over the fence conversation and a cup of coffee.
Ken had a very creative side and LOVED the outdoors. From building furniture to being a
master gardener and fishing. He always had a project going. He loved to help his family and
friends, constantly offering a helping hand and the bounty from the garden.
Ken married his wife Nancy in 1963. They have 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 3 great
grandchildren. Ken loved every minute of being "Grampy".Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Los Lunas Chapel, 2211-D Main Street, SE Los Lunas, NM 87031, (505) 866-9992 where an online guest register is available at www.noblin.com.
