Martin Marquez Obituary

Martin Mauricio Marquez, age 71, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, bought the farm on March 8, 2024 having lived more than twice as long as he expected. Born and raised in Anton Chico, NM, he loved roaming northern New Mexico, working in his parent's businesses, and causing mischief. A graduate of Santa Rosa High School, he would go on to serve nine years in the United States Army. The Army would take him on adventures to Texas, Hawaii, Japan, and Germany with deployments to Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. After his service, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Business Administration from New Mexico Highland University and Spalding College and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Webster College. He began an over 20-year career as an educator and coach all over Texas, primarily within the El Paso Independent School District. He returned to New Mexico after retirement to take another role serving New Mexican veterans, a passion of his. He worked for the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services through central and northern New Mexico connecting veterans to benefits, services, and employment opportunities. He would continue to serve veterans until he physically could not. Martin loved his many animals, a good road trip, and spending quality time with his family and friends. Even in the end, his mischief and sense of humor shined through and brought warmth to all. 'Relax and enjoy the company of those around you.'
