Mary H. Tapia, age 64 and a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on January 19, 2026. A woman of unwavering loyalty and strength, Mary was known by those who loved her as a "firecracker." She was a natural leader who was always true to her word, a generous soul, and a determined spirit.
Mary found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from the excitement of "Poshmark" finds and yard sales to peaceful camping and fishing trips. She loved traveling—especially family road trips—and could often be found enjoying the slots at Sandia Casino or listening to her favorite Oldies, Classic Rock, and R&B hits. Above all else, her greatest passions were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary is preceded in death by her father, Joe Tapia; her mother and father, Cecilia and Enrique Del Real; her sister, Sandra Bush; and her nephews, Jason Monarrez and Ray Merino Jr, and Angel Gonzalez.
She is survived by her loving husband, Roger Scott Sr.; and her sons, Michael Ponce (Angela), Roger Scott Jr. (Annabelle), and Ricky Scott (Trace). Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren: Destiny, Cynthia, Cecilia Ponce, AJ Benavidez, Raven, David, Jason, Nathan, Aria, Aidan, Abigail, and Lolla; as well as her seven beloved great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings: Ted Tapia (Rose), Priscilla Perez, Glenda Merino, Joe Tapia (Susan), Jim Tapia, Chris Tapia, Robert Tapia, and Rick Del Real.
Services for Mary will take place on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at St. Alice Catholic Church in Mountainair, NM. A visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately following the Rosary. Mary will be laid to rest at St. Alice Cemetery following the services.
Pallbearers will be David Scott, Jason Scott, Nathan Scott, A.J. Benavidez, Leroy Butler, Jonah Del Real, and Diego Sanchez.and honorary pallbearers will be all of Mary's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
