Maryetta Serna, 82, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026. She was born in Socorro, NM on September 16, 1943 and was a resident of Socorro her whole life. During her life Maryetta made many friends, and eventually met the love of her life, Rey Serna in Socorro. They were married on April 2, 1967 and they were blessed with 2 daughters and 2 grandsons.
Maryetta was preceded in death by her husband, Rey Serna, her beloved daughters Julie Andra Serna-Gonzales and Allegra Lujan, father Robert Baca, mother Teresita Baca, brothers Bobby Baca, Eddie Baca, and David Baca, and her sister Theresa Rios. She is survived by her son-in-law, Isaac Lujan, brothers in law, Manny Rios, Lewis Serna, Fernando Serna, Bobby Serna, sisters in law, Vera Gonzales, Linda Gutierrez, Beatrice Sanchez, Eva Lee Serna, and Norma Shephard, and grandsons Christopher and Aiden Gonzales, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Maryetta spent most of her life as a housewife and homemaker, making sure her family was well taken care of. She was a devout catholic, and volunteered to do whatever she could for the church during events, such as the fiestas. She was a very strong woman who endured a lot pain in her life, but persevered as she went on with her life. Many people remember her for her friendliness and the many stories she told. She had a knack for remembering very intricate details from past stories. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, visiting with family and friends, and spending time playing her favorite games at the casino. Maryetta will be missed by us all.
The family wants to give a special thanks to the residents and staff at Palmilla Senior Living in Albuquerque, where Maryetta resided for the last 14 months. The staff took special care of Maryetta, and she made many friends between the staff and residents who made her feel at home. We also want to thank the staff at Rio Grande Hospice for the care they gave during Maryetta's last few months. The staff was very professional and were a helpful resource to ensure Maryetta was as pain free as possible.
