Matilda DeVaney Obituary

Matilda DeVaney, 90, left her earthly body to be with Jesus on Friday, January 29th, 2021. She was in her home and surrounded by family. Matilda was born February 26, 1930 in Olyphant, Pennsylvania to Michael and Mary Spegar. She lived in Pennsylvania until she met the love of her life, Walter Devaney. They married on May 2, 1953 and moved across the country to Walter's home state of New Mexico. Together, they raised 5 sons, Mike, Mark, Richard, Dennis and Kevin. She was very dedicated to her family and her Catholic faith. Matilda was a little spitfire. Her small 4'11", 98 pound frame was truly a force of naturel She never met a stranger and everyone who met her left with a smile and feeling like they were part of her family. She loved to share stories about her family in New Mexico and Pennsylvania with everyone she met. She was one of the happiest little ladies you would have ever known. Matilda is survived by her husband of 67 years, Walter, her sons Mike (Paula), Richard (Carol). Mark (Carla), and Dennis, her sister Maggie & brother-in-law, John Moses. She is also survived by her grandson Lucas (Erica) her granddaughter Krystal (Steven), grandson Jerrod, her great grandkids, Kyle & Alexis and many extended family members and friends across the country. Matilda was proceeded in death by her son, Kevin, her parents Michael and Mary, sisters, Helen and Monica, and a brother Michael. She was loved and will be missed by all. The family would like to thank her Presbyterian Hospice Team. A special thanks and hugs to Dee and Teresa. You gave her and the family comfort and peace.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe 1860 Griegos Rd. NW., Albuquerque, New Mexico 87107. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
