Michael Bellinger Obituary

The Ides of March wielded cancer and pneumonia to take down Michael Thomas Bellinger on March 15, 2024. Mike was born on February 8, 1953, in DeKalb, IL, to Janice Thierfelder. "Chiggy Boo" and was raised with 3 sisters: Linda, Sue, and Denise.

Growing up, he met the "Hanover Park Boys", and they stayed life-long friends.

A smooth talker that was more into girls and sports than school, he managed to graduate from Elgin High School in 1970.
Thereafter he joined the Navy which would bring one of the most notable brushes of death his way. After a night of too much fun he missed his flight that was ultimately targeted by terrorists. No one survived. Mike would be forever grateful that he had too much to drink that night before.

In 1975, he met his future bride/angel/rock Debora. They were married 6 months later, and 49 years later Deb was still by his side.
Mike was assigned to Winter Harbor Maine and in 1978 son Brent James (B.J.) was born. After Mike and Deb received their honorable discharge, they ultimately decided to follow Mike's best friend to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. What was meant to be a temporary stint turned into 33 years on Kansas Street. Mike worked as an electrician at Briggs and Stratton where he excelled. In 1981 he was blessed with daughter Britt Ann.

Mike was a lover of animals (esp. his "Buddy Dog"), his family, and sports. Mike had fond memories of Wrigley Field and Cubs games and was a (unfortunate) die-hard Bears fan. He developed a non-dangerous obsession with Reggie Jackson early in life and was able to speak with Reggie over his final birthday. He did many side jobs for friends, neighbors, and anyone who needed it; he might bitch about it later but was always ready to help again. He loved fishing and summers spent in Shawano, motorcycles, regurgitating things he heard in the 3nd grade, alien conspiracy theories, and pristine yards. He was heavily involved in the local American Legion Post 81 in Belen, NM, where he lived with Deb until his passing.

For all of his foibles, he would do anything for those he liked and loved. He was one of the boys with BJ's friends and did everything he could to buddy up with Britt's boyfriends. Described as one of the funniest, clever, loyal, and least PC people in the world; if you were lucky enough to have a jack and coke and a smoke with him, your life forever changed for the better.

This doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the larger-than-life Mikey B, but it will have to do for now. Survived by his saint of a wife Deb, son Brent (Erin) Bellinger, daughter Britt (Andy) Frank, two grandkids Genevieve and Bodhi, and sisters Linda Nichols and Denise Carbone. He is now reconnecting with his Mother Janice, sister Sue, and stepfather Joe.

Thank you for making this world a more fascinating place, Mikey B. 1953-2024.

Mike is being cremated and there will be a small service and celebration of life when Deb returns to Milwaukee.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The American Legion Post 81 at 325 Main Street in Belen, NM 87002.

"I'll have the turtle soup and make it snappy" -Mike to every server at every restaurant ever.
