Michael Adelard Demers—devoted husband, loving father, doting grandfather, and dear friend—was received into the glory and grace of God on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in Los Lunas, New Mexico, at the age of 72. He received his "Heaven's Greeter" badge from Jesus with joy and now waits to welcome everyone into the heavenly fold.
Mike never seemed to meet a stranger and always tried to make the spaces he left kinder than when he entered them. He could often be heard whistling along to praise music in church or around the town. Through his work in insurance, his service with the Gideons, and his participation in sports through coaching and cheering, he lived out his belief that every person deserved the same level of respect and fairness. One of the quickest wits of the Southwest, he was always ready with a joke to make you smile or a comforting word when you needed uplifting.
An avid reader, Michael often said, "If you want to be a leader, you've got to be a reader." His favorite book was the Bible, and he read it continuously. Michael has left behind a legacy of love, caring, humor, and hard work that will be carried on by all who knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Mary Demers; his sisters-in-law, Anne Stoughton and Donna Stoughton; and his nephews, Todd Smith, Christopher Stoughton, and Scott Yetter, Michael is survived by his bride of 50 years, Sue Demers; and his three children, their wives, and six grandchildren: James and Candice Demers (parents of Camriel, Derek, and Breein), Matthew and Heather Demers (parents of Calen and Ronen), and Charles and Charese Demers (parents of Ellie). Michael is also survived by his brothers, siblings-in-law, and their families: Paul and Darcy Demers (parents of Jodi and Thaxter Daggs, and Paul Jr. and Justyce Demers); Kim and Rosemary Demers (parents of Jason and Terri Demers, and Shannon Demers and Katie Maloney); Maurice Stoughton (parent of Linda Yetter, Joan Smith, Emily and Will Olney, and Tim Stoughton); Charles and Judy Stoughton (parents of Gerald and Marlene Stoughton, and Scott Stoughton); and Gary Stoughton (parent of Shellianna and Mark Decker, and Russell and Katie Stoughton).
Michael's final service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley in Belen, New Mexico. Visitation will start at 9:30 AM, with the service starting at 10:00 AM. A reception will follow. For those unable to attend in person, "CCRGV Funeral Service" will livestream the service on YouTube. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Mike's honor to any of the following: The American Heart Association, Gideons International, or your home church.
