Michael Mikita Obituary

Michael Mikita came into this world on May 25,1940 in Chicago, Illinois where his father was attending Rush Medical College. His family moved to Sonoma in 1945 after WW11. He went to the old Prestwood Grammar School, then to Sonoma Valley High School, graduating in 1958. He went on to the University of Oregon, joined the Air Force and National Guard (between wars) and attended Santa Rosa Junior College, obtaining a degree in accounting and a BA from University of San Francisco which he attended while working full time. In 1961 he married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Franklin. Together, they had two children, Mikie and Kimie, 3 grandchildren, Katie, Alyssa Blythe and husband Jeremy, Mikey, 1 great-granddaughter, Katarina, and a great-grandson, (Vincent) who will enter the world in March. He is also survived by his brother, Dave Mikita and his wife, Nancy as well as many wonderful nieces,  nephews and cousins. He volunteered for the Sonoma Valley Fire Department for many years and worked for the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office for a few years while increasing his interest and education in law enforcement. In 1964 he went to the California Highway Patrol for 16 weeks of intensive training. After 26 years rising through the ranks, he retired in 1990 as Captain of the Westminster area in SoCal. Mike worked in many areas in the Bay Area as well as Southern California. Thankfully, he and Beverly had a long retirement to enjoy traveling, golf, volunteering (San Bernardino Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue Unit) and spending time with and enjoying their wonderful "grands". Unfortunately, he spent the last years on the long road of pain from serious back problems which as everything in life, he met head-on. He passed peacefully at home into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022. A memorial service for Michael will be held at St. Mathew's Episcopal Church, Los Lunas, New Mexico on February 12, 2022, at 1:00 pm.
