It is with heavy hearts that we remember and celebrate the life of a truly remarkable man, my Uncle Oscar. Known by many as Oscar the Grouch or the man with the big voice, he was a character for sure who could talk your ear off and talk himself out of just about anything. His rough exterior and crude mouth often masked a heart that was bigger than anyone could imagine.
He was all bark and no bite he might have loved to talk tough, but I knew, just like everyone else who truly knew him, that beneath that bravado was someone who would do anything for his family and those he loved. He was one of the biggest cry babies I know.
Like many of us, he had his vices. He loved his sweets especially Pepsi, he loved to drive and drive fast and even sometimes getting himself into sticky situations, but that never affected his sense of responsibility he set upon himself. He always took his responsibilities seriously, and it was something I deeply admired.
Although he never had children of his own, he was more than a father figure to me. He stepped up when no one else did, offering guidance, support, and unconditional love. His presence was a source of strength and laughter, and he was someone I could always depend on whether for advice or just a good laugh.
He loved wrestling, and through his passion for it, he indirectly taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of standing tall even when the odds are against you. His love for his nephews was evident; we were his pride and joy, and he never missed an opportunity to talk about us because, in his eyes, we were his own children.
Today, as we remember him, let us hold onto the lessons he left us about loyalty, strength, and the importance of showing our hearts, no matter how tough we might seem on the outside. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and in the love he gave so freely.
Rest in peace, Uncle Oscar. Say hello to Nana for us. Your spirit will forever remain in our hearts, and you will be missed more than words can say.
