Patricia Corbett Obituary

Patricia "Trish" Corbett, 60, died in Albuquerque, New Mexico, surrounded by family on May 8, 2023.

Born on March 1, 1963 she grew up in Holden, Louisiana. She came to know the Lord as a teenager while attending a nearby Church of Christ; the faith she found here was present until the very end and informed every decision she made.

After years of travel as a military spouse, Trish raised her three children in Clarksville, Tennessee and as each one graduated, she encouraged them to spread their wings and follow their dreams. She served as assistant and then head bookkeeper for Northwest High School in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System for 20 years during that time.

Trish's adventurous spirit spurred her to travel at every opportunity she could find. She traveled to all 50 states by her 50th birthday and planned each trip to visit as many National Parks as she could. She loved to hike, explore, and soak in the history of our beautiful country, meeting as many people and collecting as many stories as she could along the way.

Throughout her travels and adventures, her heart always led her back to one special place: Camp YoliJwa. Nestled in the mountains of Newville, Pennsylvania, Camp YoliJwa, of Doubling Gap Center, is a special retreat that provides opportunities for children, youth and adults to find the same Christian faith she found so many years ago while surrounded by beautiful creation. Trish spent many summers faithfully volunteering her time and efforts in the camp kitchen and found herself at home among the ministry's co-laborers and the breathtaking mountains.

In 2020, Trish moved West to pursue her dream of living in the high desert of New Mexico. She found a special place to call home, a loving community, and immersed herself in the local culture and volunteer efforts, including serving at the Harvey House Museum. She had recently become a member at First Baptist Church of Bosque Farms.

Trish is survived by her parents Lois Ann Gassdorf and Elton Lavelle Averett; her children and their spouses, Andrew and Rose Corbett, Sarah and Tony Cruz, Austin and Katrina Corbett, and her grandchildren, Ella, Andy, Abigail, Charlie, Nora, Jay, and Peter; siblings Fay Cannon, Beverly Crane, Carol Webb, Debbie Raiford, Nancy Esmon, and Steve Mills. She is preceded in death by her step-mother Betty Averett and brother Sidney Averett.

A private memorial will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Noblin Funeral Service, Belen Chapel in New Mexico and Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home in Louisiana.
