Paul Richard Avalos

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Paul Richard Avalos "Biggie", surrounded by his loving family. Biggie was born in Albuquerque, NM on May 10, 1971, to Henry Avalos and Mary Valenzuela. They moved to Socorro at an early age, where he grew up and discovered his love for baseball, playing as a left-handed pitcher coached by Joseph Garcia. Over the years, he also earned the affectionate nickname "Big Man". He loved barbecuing and was famous for his carne adovada and Golden Chicken.

Biggie was a fixture at local matanzas, where he could always be found as the main person stirring a big pot of golden chicharrones. He was blessed with an abundance of family who loved him dearly because he was always the life of the party, a man who truly never met an enemy.

Biggie is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Avalos; his godparents, Ernest and Shirley Avalos; his maternal grandparents, Lauriano and Martina Valenzuela; and his paternal grandparents, Vicente and Dominica Avalos; sister in law Vanessa Garcia and brother in law Benjamin Villa.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rachel. He also leaves behind his brothers, Daniel Valenzuela, Gilbert Avalos (Lori), and David Avalos (Erica); and his sisters, Karen Avalos (Tommy), Bridgette Marble, and Michelle Avalos. Sister in law, Christine Lucero, brother in law, Ronny Garcia His memory will also be cherished by his many aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins, and extended family members; father in law, Ray "Pancho" Villa, and his aunt‑in‑law Nancy De Los Santos. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews who adored him deeply: Marilyn "MJ" Apodaca, Janessa Lucero, Santiago Garcia, Angel Sedillo, RJ Silva, Z'nya Garcia, Rhiannon Salazar and Gene Jaramillo and their son Ja'Kai Jaramillo.

You left a big void in our hearts, but we take comfort knowing you can rest easy now with no more pain. Services for Biggie will be held on June 18, 2026, at San Miguel Church. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 am, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Burial will follow immediately at San Miguel Cemetery.

Honoring Biggie as pallbearers will be Julian Avalos, Mario Melchor, David Avalos, Nathen Guevara, Dylan Avalos, Phillip Scates, Adrian Avalos, and Jonathon Gandara. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Baca, Reyes Valenzuela, Raul Contreras, Joshua Myers, Adam Ware, Anthony "Chunks" Baldonado, Robert Ware, Brandon Saavedra, Steven Sanchez, Anthony Sanchez, Joseph Montoya, and Tyler Valenzuela, all of whom were Biggie's beloved cousins, friends, and nephews

Services for Paul will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at San Miguel Catholic Church. A rosary will take place at 10:30 am, followed by a mass at 11:00 am. Paul will then be placed to rest at the San Miguel Catholic Cemetery immediately following services.
