Pedro "Sonny" Y Martinez Jr., a resident of Belen, New Mexico, was received into the arms of his loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 24, 2026.
He was born on May 19, 1961, in Silver City, New Mexico, to Pedro and Maria Martinez, and was the seventh of eleven children. Sonny dedicated 32 years of service to the City of Belen Water Department before recently retiring.
He is survived by his sister Mary Lou Krochta and husband Peter of Clearwater, Florida, sister Corrie Cordova of Belen NM, sister Kathy
Martinez of Belen NM, brother Pat Martinez of Cuvero NM, his brother Carlos Martinez who passed away just a few hours after Sonny on the same morning. And his wife Inez Martinez of Los Lunas. Brother Richard Martinez and wife Lori of Belen, NM , brother Leroy Martinez of Tome, NM, brother Ben Martinez of Flagstaff, AZ, Irma Maes and husband Rudy of Belen, NM, John George Martinez and wife Felicia of Belen NM.
He was loved by his many nephews, nieces, great nieces and great nephews. Sonny had a unique sense of humor and enjoyed teasing the ones he loved. Because of his dislike for cooking he enjoyed eating at all his local favorite restaurants. "Let's go throw a munch."
A graveside service for Pedro will be held at Terrace Grove Cemetery at a later date.
