Ramona Chavez Obituary

Ramona "Mona" Michelle Chavez, 56, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was called home on May 31, 2026. She was born July 20, 1969, in Belen, NM to Johnny and Cindy Chavez—a historic day she was always proud to share, as it was the very day the first man walked on the moon.

Mona was a proud veteran who honorably served four years in the New Mexico Army National Guard with the 7-200th ADA Air Defense Artillery (HAWK Unit) in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

She is survived by her loving parents, Johnny and Cindy Chavez; her three children, Mikey (April), Jordan (Jackie), and Ayla (Jose); and her beloved furry best friend, Marley. She also leaves behind her five cherished grandchildren, Jeramiah, Elias, McKenna, Sawyer, and Kai, along with Ten granddogs.

Mona is also survived by her sister, Donnita (John); her brother, Johnny (Twila); her nephews, Allen (Kathryn), Travis (Nick), Dylan (Amanda), and Andrew; her niece, Antoinette; and her great-nephews, Dominic and Xavier, and great-niece, Natalie.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dorothy and Gator Stephens, Alwin and Cookie Hayes, and Roman and Sophia Chavez.

Mona was a free-spirited, generous, and fiercely independent woman. She loved spending time in her garden, trying her luck at the casino, learning about aliens, and making memories with those she loved. She was always just one phone call away and would do anything she could to help family and friends. Her love for her children, grandchildren, and beloved dog Marley was unconditional and unwavering. She also loved her niece and nephews as if they were her own children and held a special place in her heart for each of them.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Belen, 401 Becker Avenue, Belen, New Mexico. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen, where military honors will be rendered in recognition of her dedicated service.

Mona will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
