Renay Gutierrez, 63, of Socorro, N.M., passed away on September 16, 2026. Renay was born on February 5, 1963, daughter of the late Jose Bernardo and Beatrice Lopez and was a life long resident of Socorro, N.M. She graduated from Socorro High School in 1985.
She worked as a teacher's aide at Parkview Elementary School and later went on to work at Blake's Lotaburger where most people remember her from. Renay enjoyed listening to 89.1 on a Saturday morning. It reminded her of her dad. She loved watching tv and movies. Her favorite was cartoons. There wasn't a day that passed where she wasn't watching SpongeBob. She also enjoyed the Flintstones, Andy Griffith, and anything on the ID channel. In her earlier days, she would watch Novelas with her mom and they would call each other to discuss them. It was kind of like a book club but for tv.
Renay was a Dallas Cowboy fan just like her dad but secretly liked them to go against her daughter Denise, who is an avid 49ers fan. Renay loved writing and journaled everything that happened in her life. She loved listening to music like Reo Speedwagon, Los Tigres del Norte. She also enjoyed Grupo Bronco. Renay loved going dancing with her late best friend Ernestine, who we all know she's dancing with in heaven to Brooks & Dunn's "Neon Moon." Renay was very close to her family and loved each and everyone of her nieces and nephews. Renay will be deeply missed by her sister Dody, and daughters Nici and Sammy.
Renay met her life partner Danny Savedra in December of 2007. They loved each other unconditionally and built their relationship on love and prayers. Danny took great care of her. Renay is preceded in death by her beloved parents Jose and Beatrice Lopez, Sister Maryann Lopez, Son-in-law Rick Taylor, and great-niece Hazel Jade Green. She is survived by her loving partner Daniel "Danny" Savedra; daughters Denise Ortega and Samantha (Rojelio) Silva; her grandchildren that she adored, RJ (Angel Sedillo) Silva, Enzo and Lainey Silva; her sister Mary "Dody" Lopez; Uncles Ramon (Alma) Lopez, and Robert (Evelyn) Contreras.
She is also survived by her nieces Erica Lopez, Tara (Chris) Valdez, and Jessica (James) Green; great-nieces Markeisha (Damion), Alissa, Eva, Elizabeth; great-nephews CJ, Adam, Eden, Sky, Lucas, and baby James; great-great-niece Alani, and great-great-nephew Jose.
A celebration of life for Renay will take place on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 11:00 am, at the Torres Hall at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, NM.
