Robert Bryan Obituary

Robert Lee Bryan was born in Albuquerque on May 28, 1926. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 99 on June 26th, 2025 in Albuquerque.

Robert grew up in Albuquerque, with a short time in Missouri in his early years. He graduated from Albuquerque High School, then joined the Army Air Corps during WWII. He served in Germany just after the surrender of the Axis powers, after his paperwork had been misplaced for a time. He always joked that they heard he was coming and surrendered.

Robert had come to know Jesus Christ as his Savior in the service and he went to Howard Payne College in Brownwood, TX, and felt called to preach the gospel in 1947. He also met the love of his life, Janie, as a freshman there. They were married in 1950 and graduated in 1951. Robert then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX and graduated with a Master of Divinity degree. Robert and Janie had four children during these years: David Wayne, Robye Ann, Royce Dale and Rhoda Noel. He pastored churches in Paris and Coppell, TX during the 1950's, then the family moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1959. Robert worked for the Baptist New Mexican and the Corps of Engineers during this time and the family was transferred to Anchorage, Alaska in 1965. This led to Robert being hired by QASAS and transferring to Savanna, IL for training, followed by transfers around the USA, as well as to Korea, Germany and Johnston Island before his retirement. Robert had pastored a church in Pirmasens, Germany for a couple of years during his time stationed there in the 1970's. He and Janie had developed some wanderlust in their travels and continued to enjoy living in several places in NM & TX, where Robert preached and pastored in several churches before finally settling in Rio Communities, NM in 2004. They became active members of Sierra Vista Baptist Church there and were blessed by God with a wonderful and loving church family.

Robert is predeceased in death by Janie, David and Dale, as well as his parents, Clarance and Jewell Bryan, and his siblings, John, James, Helen and Clarance (Bud) and is survived by Robye (married to L.P. Ludlam) and Rhoda, granddaughters Holly, Danielle and Sarah and his great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Eliana, Vincent and Everly. He is also survived by his (baby) sister, Anna Wood and many loving nieces and nephews, along with their families.

There will be services for Robert at Vista Baptist Church, July 12th at 11:00 a.m., and a burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, July 14th at 2:00 pm.
