Rudolf Cavalier, a long time resident of Mountainair, NM passed away August 31, 2023, at his home following a year-long illness.
He was born in Belen, NM, on February 10, 1945, to his parents, Henry and Mary Cavalier. He was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by his life partner, Darlene Ryer; two daughters, Heather and Autumn; grandchildren, Isabel and Joshua; many nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. Rudy was a disabled veteran of the Viet Nam war, having served in the U.S. Air Force on the ground as an observer. He was an amazing sculptor who worked with many mediums including wood, stone, metal, glass of various types, bronze and clay. He also created wall art out of copper with his partner, Darlene, using their own type of patina. Because his creativity was so highly regarded, his works span the globe. Many pieces of his art can be found in Mountainair businesses and outside in public view. He loved music, was a great dancer, and an excellent cook. He was renowned for his special form of kindness to others uniquely disguised in a pretend gruff manner; always followed by a hearty laugh. The people of Mountainair so loved him that in October the town will hold a day of celebration of life in his honor. As he wanted and requested, his remains will be cremated and Darlene will set his ashes free in a special place. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave., (505) 864-4448, where an online guest register is available at www.noblin.com.
