Shirley Louise Sweat Age 79 A resident of Mountainair, NM Passed away on December 27, 2025.
She was a 1964 graduate of Portales High School and attended Bible College in Waxahachie, TX. She lived in Clovis, NM for many years and worked at Citizens Bank for a number of years before entering full time ministry in 1980.
She traveled holding revivals and special meetings throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington and even Hawaii and Guam. She loved caring for people and ministering to them with the gifts God gave her.
Shirley served as co-pastor of Mountainair Christian Center for 43 years, where she was also the principal of New Beginnings Christian Academy for 24 of those years.
She loved teaching the kindergarten students how to read and always wanted all the students to have fun too. Through her encouragement, the students held fundraisers and went on trips by bus, airplane, and railroad to Disneyland, Branson, Missouri, Denver, Co, Hawaii and Guam.
Preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Elva Sweat; two brothers, Floyd Ladell Sweat & Duane Sweat and two sisters, Elsie Lawanna Sweat & Lola Marie Hacker.
She is survived by: an adopted daughter, Denise Sweat, one brother, Leon Sweat and wife Ann of Clovis, NM, one sister-in-law, Nellie Sweat of Portales, NM, and one sister, Anna Ruth Moore and husband Bill, of Mountainair, NM and two sisters by time, Sharon Jackson of Round Rock, TX, and Doris Jaquess of Mountainair, NM, brother-in-law William Hacker of Springs, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of brothers and sister in Christ and many friends.
Services for Shirley will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the Mountainair Christian Center. A visitation will be held at 12:30 pm, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. Shirley will then be laid to rest at Mathew's cemetery immediately following services.
Pallbearers will be Steven Burns, Travis Burns, Adam Dowdy, Anthony Santangelo, Lynn Stewart, and Luis Vergara.
Honorary Pallbearers are The Congregation of Mountainair Christian Center and students of New Beginnings Christian Academy.
