Steve Hinken, a long time resident of Los Lunas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 22, 2026.
Steve was born in Albuquerque to Bob and Carolyn Hinken on August 7, 1967. At a young age he demonstrated an exceptional understanding of how things worked, often taking things apart to “fix” them. Steve worked many jobs over the years, always working with his hands. He worked at Sandia Labs on the National Solar Thermal Test Facility, as a maintenance contractor for Facebook, and most recently for the FAA. Steve owned his own business for many years, Hinken Speciality Fabrication, where he designed and built custom assemblies for vehicles or other installations needing a creative solution. He was extremely talented and inventive.
Steve had many hobbies. He loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and 4-wheeling. Additionally, he had a passion for classic cars. He took every opportunity he could to enjoy the outdoors and appreciate God’s creation, even quitting a job for a hunt! He loved people, was ornery, and appreciated it when others would give it right back.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Carolyn and is survived by his brother Scott, sister Cindy, brother-in-law Shawn, his niece Maryellen, and nephews Owen, Nathan, and Jesse. He was very proud of all of them and truly enjoyed the time he spent being the “fun uncle”.
Steve had many friends and impacted many lives. He will be greatly missed! Services will be held on Friday, August 14th at 10:30am at First Baptist Church of Los Lunas, 914 Los Lentes Rd SE, Los Lunas, NM 87031. A light lunch will follow.
