Susan Sawyers Obituary

On Wednesday, September 15th, 2021, Susan Sawyers passed away at the age of 64. Suzie was born in Riverside, CA to William "Bill" Capps and the late Barbara Crawford. Barbara later gave Suzie two half-sisters, Sherry and Holly. At the age of 3, Suzie's dad took her and her older sister, Kathy, to the family ranch in Santa Rosa, NM. Shortly after their move, Suzie was blessed with a second mother, the late Joan, two step-siblings, Pam and Johnny, and a half-brother Roger. Suzie had many adventures on the ranch with several cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. In 1973 the late Nelda became Suzie's 3rd mother, bringing step-siblings, Freda, Jay, and Sperlan. Suzie often said that each of her mothers taught her different and very important life lessons.

Suzie graduated from Santa Rosa high school in 1976. In 1977, while pregnant with her son, Rick, she moved to Oregon. She eventually found her way to Tyrone, OK where she married and her extended family grew, leading to the birth of her daughter, Sarah. After several years of living in Oklahoma and working in the bakery of Safeway, Suzie became the assistant manager for Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart took her to KS, IN, and finally OH, picking up many friends along the way. Suzie lived and worked in Ohio for over 15 years. During this time she became stepmother to April and turned many of her Wal-Mart friends into family. Suzie was often tough at first, but once you got through the outer layer she loved fiercely, and her hugs could make any problem melt away. Even after Suzie retired and moved to Los Lunas, NM, she spoke fondly of her "Ohio Family."

Suzie found peace being outside, especially gardening and making her yard beautiful. She enjoyed a good flea market, garage sale, and "junking." Shortly before moving to the desert, she fell in love with kayaking. Suzie could DIY just about anything, and often did. After a good day of being with a loved one, looking for a deal, and getting her hands in the soil, the perfect ending was a steak or ribs on the grill and a beer.

Suzie leaves behind her father, sister, brother-in-law, son, daughter, stepdaughter, 2 sons-in-law, 4 grandsons, a granddaughter, 2 dogs, a vast extended family, and even more friends. If you'd like to honor Suzie we ask that you get out in nature, try your hand at a craft, or plant something. Give someone your best hug often, and share as many memories of her as you can. Funeral arrangements were trusted to Noblin Funeral Service, Los Lunas, 2211-D Main Street, SE Los Lunas, NM 87031, (505) 866-9992.
