Theresa Elaine (Hancock) Hancock

Theresa Elaine Hancock, age 69, passed away quietly in her home close to family, on February 25, 2026.

Theresa was born in Rockford, Illinois, and spent much of her life in New Mexico, where she loved the landscape of her adopted state, especially the Jemez Mountains. She was a loving & devoted mother to four children and a proud grandmother who cared deeply for her family.

Those who knew Theresa remember her as exceptionally intelligent, endlessly curious, and wonderfully funny. She had mastered the art of the long goodbye, you would always find yourself standing in the front doorway for an extra hour laughing with her. She had a quick, dry sense of humor that her friends especially loved, and she had a remarkable ability to recall random facts about almost anything. She was an avid reader who enjoyed learning and could often be found with a book (or audiobook) close by. Theresa was also a talented cook, a skilled seamstress, and she had a special love for her pets.

Above all, Theresa was caring and devoted to the people in her life. Her family and the many people whose lives she touched will remember her warmth, her wit, and the many ways she shared her knowledge, humor, and love.

Theresa is survived by her children: Krista Hancock & her husband Kevin Smith, Erin Baca, Kevin Baca & his partner Sammy Byrne, and Calynn Lunsford & her husband Iain Kirby. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Sylas Lunsford & Violet Kirby Lunsford.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Fred & Rick Hancock, and her parents, Simon & Geraldine Hancock.
