Thomas Patrick Gantert, 65, of Belen, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Tom was born on April 24, 1960, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Donald and Inge. Gantert. He grew up in Gallup, NM, and graduated Gallup High School in 1978. After high school Tom worked in the construction industry. Later, he took a job with Giant Refinery working alongside friends old and new. After moving to Belen, he worked for Sanchez Demolition. Whatever the job or task, he wanted to do it right and took great pride in doing so.
There was no limit to Tom's curiosity, and his interests were many and varied. He loved a wide variety of music and he liked it loud. He was proud to be an American and enjoyed watching sports, reading, and keeping up with friends. He loved his three children and made the most of the time he spent with them, teaching them to swim, ride bikes, fish, enjoy the outdoors and, of course, to appreciate good music.
Tom will be remembered for living life on his own terms and doing things his own way, including speaking and spelling. He was funny, intelligent and insightful whether using words he made up, words most people have never heard of, or a string of emojis. He treasured his friends and loved ones, carrying photos, cards, letters, newspaper clippings, and other mementos with him his entire life.
Tom was proceeded in death by his parents Don and Inge Gantert, and his brother Martin "Mick" Gantert. He is survived by his son, Joshua Carrillo; two daughters, Renee and husband Wesley Skelley, Chelsea and husband Jake Miakos; his grandson Parker Skelley; his sister Susanne and husband Jacob Kolikant, and their four children and his beloved dog Gus.
A graveside service for Thomas will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 12:00 pm, at Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen, NM.
