Walter DeVaney Obituary

Walter S. DeVaney, 92, passed away peacefully on September 30th in the family home. Walter was born December 1,1928 on his parents ranch, next to his grandparents ranch in Progresso, NM where he lived until he was drafted in the United States Army. It is in the Army he met Johnny Moses and thru Johnny, he met his bride of 67 years, Matilda. They married May 2, 1953 in Pennsylvania and Walter then moved his wife to his home state of New Mexico. Together, they raised 5 sons, Mike, Richard, Mark, Dennis & Kevin. He was dedicated to his family. Walter made friends everywhere he went. His nurses loved him and his humor. He had to joke or show his sense of humor often and made every one laugh. He was involved in his son's and grandson's lives until the very end. Walter is survived by four of his sons, Mike and wife Paula, Richard and Carol, Mark and wife Carla, Dennis and his brother-in-law Johnny Moses. He is also survived by his grandson, Lucas and wife Erica and their unborn son, Krystal and husband Stephen and their children Kyle and Alexis and grandson Jerrod and many extended family members across the country. We cannot go without mentioning his favorite niece, Paula Jean. Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Matilda, his son, Kevin, his brother, Paul and his parents, Ray and Myrtle. Services will take place on November 8, 2021 with a mass at 10:00am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 1860 Griegos Rd NW in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
